In March, King Qian Chu of Wuyue paid homage to Song.
In May, Qian Chu surrendered his territory to Song, comprising 14 prefectures, 86 counties, and 550,680 households. Wuyue perished.

In June, Song troops attacked Liao, besieged Liao's Southern Capital. Many nearby prefectures surrendered. Liao reinforcements arrived at the Southern Capital and defeated Song troops at Gaoliang River.

In January, the Imperial Academy established positions for 100 outer dormitory students.
In May, the Imperial College set a quota of 900 students.
[Fourth Year of Xining]
In February, reformed the imperial examination system, abolished the poetry composition tests for jinshi candidates and various Classics examinations, replacing them with tests on interpretation of the Classics and policy essays for jinshi candidates.
In October, established the Three Hall system for Imperial students: 700 students in the Outer Hall, 200 in the Inner Hall, and 100 in the Upper Hall.

In August, increased the number of Imperial students to 2,000 in the Outer Hall, 300 in the Inner Hall, and 100 in the Upper Hall. Also established an examination system for advancement between these halls.

Emperor Zhezong passed away, his younger brother Zhao Ji succeeded him, with Empress Dowager Xiang sharing power in government.
[Fifth Year of Zhenghe]
In January, Aguda proclaimed himself Emperor, changed his name to Min, and named his country Jin.
