Prologue As previously mentioned, the Dew Drinkers migrated to the Mystic Woods and developed their own language the Dew Drinkers' Tongue. This language plays a crucial role in preserving our clan's knowledge. Now, outsiders have come to our Dew Drinkers' dwelling. They appear clear-minded and have asked me to teach them our tongue. Our clan believes knowledge should not be hoarded. While I've shared much already, the Dew Drinkers' Tongue as a clan language contains profound knowledge that remains imperfectly grasped. Since it is elegant knowledge, there should be no concealment. Therefore, I have written this book to pass it on, so that if questions arise, one may refer to it at any time. As one of gifted knowing, I may not yet comprehend all the mysteries of the Dew Drinkers' Tongue. This book exists solely to exchange fresh knowing. Origin The Dew Drinkers' Tongue is rooted in "Knowing." Our clan often uses the character "Zhi" (know) as the root to form clan-specific terms. Thus, I understand that "Zhi" can be considered the foundational root of our language. Affix Language Our clan considers "Ya (Elegant)" as good and "Zhuo (Dust)" as bad. Our lifespan is short, so using affix language can save time on detailed descriptions. Translation Notes 1. Behaviors Blessed Breath: life, being alive. Fading Breath: death, passing away. Knowing: to know, to learn. 2. Special Terms Knowing Slumber: going to death. Note: The Treefolk call it "Joyful Slumber." Grand Grace: deity. Note: The Supreme Emperor is considered a deity. 3. Common Terms Foreknown: all deceased seniors recorded on the Spirit Tree. Note: All deceased Dew Drinkers are "Foreknown." Afterknown: descendants, future generations. Nascent Knowing: newborn. Remnant Knowing: corpse. Fresh Knowing: newly acquired knowledge. Gracebound: a very good friend. Dustbound: bad person, one with impure thoughts. Gifted Knowing: genius. Birthbless: birth. Newbless: new life. Graceful: wonderful. 4. Common Phrases Hail the Grand Grace: to offer boundless respect to the Supreme Emperor or to express gratitude for the infinite wisdom bestowed upon our clan. Note: The Treefolk have a different saying Pray to the Grand Grace: to pray for the Supreme Emperor's mercy! As the Foreknown Said: I heard the seniors say this. Thus I Know: I understand it should be said this way. Note: The Treefolk have a different saying Thus My Heart Rejoices: that would be wonderful! Civilization Outlast Eternity: hoping the flame of our civilization will never be extinguished. Note: The Treefolk have a different saying endless bliss: hoping that one day, the Supreme Emperor will lead the Treefolk to eternal life.
